Today I’m sharing my most recent finished project – my new favorite slouchy sweater using the Burda 6296 Sewing Pattern!
In an effort to spice up my sewing life and go beyond my comfort zone I had my husband pick out my project, from pattern to fabric! I was inspired by those Youtube videos a few years back where beauty vloggers would have their boyfriend/husband/significant other do their makeup. Those videos were always super hilarious, so I thought why not try a variation of it by having my husband pick out my project?
Choosing the Perfect Sewing Pattern at Jo-Ann Fabrics
My husband spent about 30 minutes choosing a sewing pattern. He had a lot of opinions and some of his commentary was hilarious. He’s a trooper for going through all the books and finding something for me to sew!
Ultimately, he landed on this Burda Style 6296 pattern and chose View C for me to make. View C is a slouchy sweater with a hood and front pocket. He actually knew that I have never made anything with a hood or front pocket, so that was the added challenge he threw at me. He’s really attentive to my wardrobe and the things I’ve made, so he definitely knew how to choose well!
My Thoughts on His Pattern Selection
As far as his pattern selection goes, I was expecting him to choose a blouse or dress. I was pleasantly surprised that he went for something more casual, but I’m glad he did because I haven’t really made myself comfy clothing! I also haven’t done as much sewing with knits as I’d like to, so the choice was perfect.
After browsing Joann Fabrics and online fabric stores, ordering a bunch of swatches, and going through those swatches, he ended up liking this Loop Back Sweatshirt Fabric from Minerva. He was looking for something a bit thicker (medium-heavy weight) and the fabric he selected met that criteria.
The only thing he did let me have a say in was the color, since he was having a really hard time choosing for me. I ended up going with Dark Rose. I ordered 3 yards of fabric and only ended up needing 1.5 yards, so I will be making myself some True Bias Hudson Pants with my leftover yardage!
My Finished Burda 6296 Sweater
Overall, I’m so happy with my sweater! It was very simple to make and thanks to my trusty Babylock Imagine Serger, it was fast to sew as well! My husband did a great job choosing my project, and I’m thinking about making this an occasional thing…as long as he continues to oblige! Or maybe even have other friends or family members choose patterns for me!
