I’m not a huge fan of bold “in-your-face” florals, but I do love when they are incorporated into garments in an understated way. I recently sewed a summer ensemble featuring embroidered cotton, which I felt would be a subtle way to add more floral elements into my wardrobe.
I also wanted to create a cute “day trip” outfit for the summer. Throughout the course of the summer we like to go on weekend day trips or sight-seeing around town. My recent sight-seeing adventure was at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park in Mukilteo, WA. Such a cute spot for picnics, and the historic homes and lighthouse museum are great attractions too!
Some of you may have seen the 3D Circle Embroidered Fabric from Joann Fabrics – it has been all over Instagram these days! I decided to jump on the trend and make the Made by Rae Rose Shorts. I love that this fabric adds a fun playful element to the shorts. And as far as my shorts preferences go, I LOVE a loose comfy short. So the moment MBR released this pattern, I knew I would be making a few pairs for the summer months!
I also made the In the Folds Peppermint Ruffle Sleeve Top in a white embroidered cotton from Joann Fabrics (can’t find this specific fabric on the website, but they have tons of options!) I have been really into ruffles lately (like this dress and this top) and I know the Peppermint top is a beloved pattern, so I felt like it would be a great piece to make that I can wear both everyday and at work. The top was super easy to make (just 3-4 hours for me from cut to final press) and it is officially on my “tried and true” list.
I love this combination of patterns together and they make the perfect vacation outfit! What is your favorite pattern combination? Share in the comments below, I’d love to hear your faves!
